They really doesn't have much taste, be it at their will or they're force to abide to the city council's requirements/wants/likes whatever you call it.. It's just a lousy piece of art.
Like how Wernn quotes it 'Rich people has no taste'. Weird as it is, to some extent, it's very true.
Maybe you like it and will appreciate it, but not for us. Darn, it really manage to spoils the first sight of Pavilion in my mind and heart, which used to be elegant and classy, simple yet sophisticated. There's just so much you can do at the open space.. Hold some events, promos, new openings, a gathering place, a lawn, a playground, a yoga place.. whatever it is, darn.
There you go, you've just successfully added another 'piece of art' to uglify KL.

The 'piece of art', of course as abstract as the word 'ART' is,the beauty lies in the eye of the beholder..
Please enlighten me on the meaning of these 3 gigantic pots in a fountain, so I can appreciate it better?

The most I can relate to its objectives, are some hibiscus carvings on the pots that spells our national flower. That's about it.

i guess everyone has their own opinion when it comes to aesthetics..but bear in mind there is always a very clear albeit thin line between aesthetics and art.
someone said art is the application of knowledge into the realization of a conception, which explains why people don't paint or sculpt at the faculty of arts and social sciences. it also explains why sunzi wrote and not painted the 'art of war'.
art is based on logic, understanding, maturity, and anything else which require a good amount of thought to it. art is justifiable while aesthetics can be anything u and i wanted it to be.
when one does a public 'artwork' they are bound by their responsibility to the public and not to their own whims and fancy. most artist utilize metaphors or references with their personal aesthetics to come up with a sculpture.
in this sculpture i see 3 bowls with bunga rayas on it. what does it tells us? to me first of all bunga rayas don't grow on bowls coming out of squirting water and while some bowls have floral motives on them none of them come close to this size and they were never stack precariously over again squirting water. honestly if we are trying to glorify our national flower, we are much better off planting thousands of it on that spot..and we have enough of bowls at the pavilion food court..
whats more disturbing is the railing around it..a public artwork belongs to the public and it is supposed to be engaging to the public..it needs to blend into the space, the landscape and its activities instead of being fenced up. with that it is nothing more an 'iconic' sore thumb which protrudes out of an otherwise spacious and flexible public space. im pretty they'll get a security guard there just to make sure people don't 'trespass'..
maybe they fenced it coz it cost 8mil..8mil!!!!???..u can tell a layman and explain 8mill is for this and that. but with tht kind of money any private developer can built a 5star landscaping deck. go to the most expensive condo/hotel in kl, look at the swimming pool, any fountains n water bodies, the sunbathing deck, the spas and any other features they offer plus all the plants in the development. all these added together they'll cost u less than 8mill. infact most of the time it's abit more than half of 8mill..put it this way, if theres ever 8mill taxpayers in the country we all fork out rm1 for it..
some will disagree with my cheong hei art n aesthetic rants..i respect that..everyone have their opinion..but i think we can all agree that the ugly side of this artwork is the 8mill it claims to represents...
gosh, I never knew it costed a hefty 8mil?? Are they nuts or they think we are nuts? gosh...... why do you have to tell me this, I felt so stupid now... Whatever the lighting/watering technology is behind this fountain, I don't really understand how it forks up to 8 million.
Darn.. I have to agree on the 'fenced up thingy'. The least I want is to take a rest there, but it's so low I don't even want to try to sit on it. I don't even know if I'm allowed to.
