Melaka !

Went to Melaka last weekend with good friends... It was a great trip amidst the hot weather.. Local boy & Janice was kind enough to show us around and it was fun having their company.. Thanks a lot ya!!

Kenlooper has penned down some really good notes on our wonderful trip.

Our last trip in the year of 2008 and may year 2009 allows us to see more, feel more, experience more and love more! Thanks to my beloved friends, you guys are great and life is so much more fun and worthy with you all. I appreciate you guys ya!

Happy New Year !

Merry Christmas !

This year, just like any other year, we are celebrating Christmas at Kao Fu's house.. It was a celebration we all waited for.. it's time we can have some turkey and good food, of course there's beers and liquors offered, but we have to disappoint Kao Fu again, as we aren't avid drinkers..

We brought some gifts and placed it under the Christmas tree... It was a new green tree this year.. Kau Mou bought it at a good deal, bundle with decorations...

Hope everyone had a great Christmas and also, an early Happy New Year to you.. May the coming year be a productive, wonderful and happy year for you!

Happy Dong Zhi !

Today is Dong Zhi, the arrival of winter. 冬至 aka winter solstice day aka tong yuen day..
Pa said Dong Zhi arrived one day earlier this year, Dec 21, instead of Dec 22. Since young, it's been a tradition to be at home and have dinner together, it's just as important as the Chinese New Year reunion dinner. This day reminds me to appreciate and celebrate the harmony and happiness in family.

This year, mum made some tong yuen, white in colour.. It's balls of glutinuous rice stuffed with gula melaka, and boiled in sweet ginger soup. That's how ours goes.. I bet, there's many different kinds of tong yuens, each family may have their own tradition on making tong yuens. Some with multiple colours (pink, red, green etc..)

I know each of them is tasty and represents the same thing: one happy and united family.. Happy Dong Zhi to all of you.

Girl, thank you for the beautiful card, which has the word 'JOY' in bright red green Christmas colour. Thanks Wah Nui, I wish the same to you, that you stay happy and healthy all the way and may GOD bless you. Enjoy your Christmas, I hope it's gonna be a white Christmas for you!

To all my dearest friends, early Christmas greetings from me, wishing each one of you a great Christmas & New Year, and happy holidays. May the year of 2009 brings you closer to your dreams and stay healthy always.

Early Sunday morning

Today, I woke up thinking that it was a working day, and just about to check out the time, I realize that it's a Sunday.. The feeling is heaven... hehe

So, I snuggled in bed, I know it's been raining outside last night.. it feels so good..

I slept.. till 8am.. still very early for a Sunday, but I want to get the most out of it, so I woke..
Planning to watch a movie given by Wernn.. Pick list for today: "What Happens in Vegas"

But.. the main topic today is actually about sneezing.. hehe.
I just sneezed.. I sneeze a number of times almost each morning after waking up.. I was wondering why did I sneeze once I woke, and not while I'm asleep? Or did I, but I didn't realize it? Out of curiosity, I googled for it..

Why don't you sneeze while sleeping?
[WikiAnswers says] : The irritation that initially triggers activity at nerve endings in the upper respiratory tract will wake you up before you actually sneeze.
[Meglittlemeg says]: Ah... Now, come to think of it, it did happens once before. I woke up right before I'm about to sneeze.

Reading further, it's interesting to know that the nerve that causes sneezing, will also cause our eyes to be closed. The urban legend that says your eyes will pop out if you force it open while sneezing, is a myth. Though I won't try it.. I just know for myself, when I sneeze, my facial expressions seems all jumbled up. It's so funny.

Anyway, happy Sunday to everyone!

Reuse & Recycle..

My mum brings out our own Tupperware when she buys our take-away meals. Mum separates our rubbish type especially bottles and aluminum tins. Mum also do house cleanings and will pack the things that can be recycle and call the recycle guy to pick it up. Mum is really Mum and I'm gonna learn from mummy dearest...

My part??
I had make it a habit now to bring my own bags out during shopping..
It was kind of a 'shiok' sendiri feeling I have when I don't need to bring home new plastics bags when doing marketing / shopping..

I bring at least two - one in case for wet stuffs, and another for dry stuffs. When doing marketing, I will definitely need a bigger one.. My workplace gave us one big recycle bag, so, it is really handy. But now, most shopping center has their own recycle bags and can be purchased on the spot. I'm also hoping that they start to charge a fee for plastic bags given out.

I really hope that more people will start to reuse and recycle, and if everyone can do a little bit, it will make a whole lot of differences..

Let's reuse and recycle!

Being adventurous

We cooked pasta the last time around, prawns and tomato pasta, then we had sardine pasta and this time, it's a mixture of self-create-dishes. But there's tomato again.
It's edible (compare to the cake I bake few years back), it's healthy and delicious!
tee..he..he (knowing that I have low requirements on food, most food are delicious for me)

Hepatitis B! I'm not protected!

It all started with a blood test/medical check up at BPLab recently...

My results was out and everything seems good (Thank GOD).. Hmm, even did an upper abdomen ultrasound.. Click on the link if you wanna know more, I just know why I have to do it, after I get scanned. hee, it was my first time being ultra scan. Dr. applied a cooling clear gel over a hand held device (transducer) and go over my upper abdomen.. Dr. said everything's in good condition, just that my kidney length is long.. hee.. No news is good news.

Then, still need to have the report analysis with Dr. Came to the part of Hepatitis B.. I still remembered parents bringing us to have this vaccine sometime in primary/secondary school time, but now, it says that I'm not protected. Aiyo.. means the vaccine hilang somewhere.. So, Dr. Lim suggested that I have a booster dose. And that sounds like 'Ouch..' but I have to..

The jab was not too bad, slightly more painful than some 'people so-called ant bite blood withdrawal' (not so ant bite to me though). That jab may make one feel tired, painful joints.. but luckily I'm ok, it was at the moment of needle poking situation that got me Ouch.....

I guess all mamas to be will be screened whether they have this vaccination. What if the mama have it? I don't know how le, forgotten to ask doctor pulak. But doctor says newborns are now injected with this vaccination as part of the baby's immunization program.

Hepatitis B can spread through blood (just like HIV), and can cause life-long infection (a carrier) and there's no specific treatment for it. It infects the liver, and can cause liver cancer.
Hepatitis A meanwhile, is transmitted through our food.. Dr. says that most often people may get infected, but our body makes antibodies and cured ourselves, in fact, without us realising it. There's a vaccine too for Hepatitis A, but cost more than Hepatitis B jab. (~RM110 for Hepatitis A, RM50 for Hepatitis B)

I'm just done with the first jab for Hepatitis B, 2 more to go in the next 6 months for the complete vaccination.. ;)

for being early

i'm in a room. Attending an awareness program that will be starting in 10mins but just few of us here.. So i really have nothing much to do and resorted to my little blog. Now i know why i'm late most of the time. Hee.

This morning while driving to work i saw a police car that has the siren and lights on and flashing.. I guess that's a sign that says 'clean the path civilians, i'm at work'. Hee. I really always wonder where are they rushing to. Have you?
My reasons:
1. They are rushing to catch thieves or robberies or kidnapping or murder case.
2. They are rushing to help in some accidents.
3. They are on call by some diplomats or politicians or anyone that have say on their job.
4. They are late for work (courtesy of wernn)
5. They just like the fun of it.

Do u think i get them right? Any police uncles out there can enlighten me? But guess not, mines not a political blog, they wont be interested one.. Hee..

Ten minutes liow. People still not much.. I should just go shopping..

Happy Notes

Congratulations to both Baby and David on your newborn..
Take good care ya and enjoy the new journey of life. All my best wishes to both of you.

Weekend..

It's a much awaited weekend, that I will be going for dimsum buffet with my family at Kin Ma Restaurant, Palace of Golden Horses. I've been thinking about it almost everyday..

Finally, it's the day, and happy as a bee, we went for our brunch. I always love family gatherings. I love my family !!

Then, we went to Galeri Petronas, KLCC for the artwork showcase. This time shows photographs taken by Soraya Yusof Talismail entitling Imaging Selfs. Also on display is the blog drawings from Mazen Kerbaj. It was also made 'true to life' with some sound effect... which was actually the recording he recorded on the balcony of his apartment block, the night the bombing began in Beirut.

And, we wrap it off (while waiting for the rain to stop) in Kinokuniya browsing through the wide range of wrapped books.. including one of my favourites, Tin Tin.

What's going on?

We were walking around Bukit Bintang, heading towards Low Yat yesterday. Looking for a mouse.

It was a breeze walking from Pavilion, till we reach the traffic light at Lot10 junction. Cards everywhere, we have to focus to cross the road. Standing at the crossroads, we noticed a group of people (big group!) gathering right in front of Maybank. Youngsters, mostly dressed in black, with caps. I found more of who they are here.

Walking from Pavilion to LowYat via Jalan Bukit Bintang wasn't a breeze anymore. It seems that we went into a different town/country. We saw more street dancers, youngsters in black, saw a fighting among few youngster (hit the head, face, neck and shoved him to a car and continue hitting) and people in walktie-talkie running to the scene to watch/help.

What has happen to the KL I know. I've grown up here since I existed. I felt sort of a pain to see this. Where did all the youngster came from? What's their intention of burning the loser's clothes? If it's a culture / weekend activity, do it right man. Do it the legal way. Don't obstruct the traffic. Don't bring any bad impression to the tourist. Don't fight. If you have to fight, learn boxing/kickboxing/kungfu. You can go to Hollywood and get famous and do it like a man.

From the Star article, it says
"Last Saturday, things started to simmer when one or two minor scuffles broke out. Some of the kids fled, sensing things were about to get ugly. Soon enough, just as it was getting dark, a mob of around 20 angry teenagers were seen dragging a guy into a back alley. The others on the street – the youths, tourists, security guards – just watched in silence."

Said one of the 3 policemen,
"“They fight all the time, almost every week. But we can’t do much about it. There’re so many of them, and so few of us. We can’t be watching them all the time,” he said."

I saw the fight myself.. it happens and will continues...Until the authority do something about it.

Bake a feather-light gateau, anyone?

This is how the gateau (pronounced as ga-toe) looks like..
The recipe is over here. I haven't try it yet, but sure would love to..

Eat vegetarian, it's good for your health

Farul: Yet another makan post, hehe, can't help it. megmeg is made of food (and assam laksa)

The 1st of Nov 2008

Lunch was at Ole Ole Bali, Sunway Pyramid. The menu was familiar, and yea, it shares the same menu as Bumbu Bali in Puchong. Brothers & sisters..

We had two sets of RM25 nasi ayam.. Mine was ayam bertutu - it's a 1/2 chicken marinated in some kind of spices and Wernn's was a 1/2 fried chicken.

Verdict: Great meal.. Big portions.. The next time around, we should just order 1 set of main course and a starter. I've taken some snapshots of the chicken bones but found it a little gross to put it here.. They remains in memories and thank you chickens!

Dinner was at Italiannes with buddies. They have a promotion now. At RM29.90, we can choose 4 different kinds of pasta (8 kinds to choose from). Portions = small.
Ordered a seafood pizza too, it was just right the 4 of us.. Delicious. Cost us RM37.90 for the pizza.

Having said that, need to wake up early tomorrow as it's All Souls Day. I guess all the food will be easily digested and it serves as an energy booster for a day of house works..

Over the weekend

Friday:
Work till late in office.. Tiring..

Saturday:
Went to work after soooo long.. darn~ Finally, I completed the tasks.. I'm not expecting to go office again anytime soon on a weekend.. Luckily Monday is a public holiday, Happy Diwali friends.. Hehe

Lack of sleep on Friday night, so after work on Saturday, I spend some quality time at home, which does includes watching TV (Super Trio Show), reading newspapers and sleeping early..

Sunday:
It will be a fun day of eating out. Paid bills, and went for brunch makan-makan at Kin Kin Restaurant, Pandan Indah. It's a corner lot shop, near to MPAJ and Pantai Hospital. They serve good spicy pan mee. Pricing at about RM5 per bowl..

Dinner time, was at Lian Bee Hokkien Mee stall, Jalan Cheng Lock, opposite Eon Bank, next to S&M Shopping Center, near to Petaling Street.. ;) hehe..
Found this place from A Whiff of Lemongrass. After trying it, the verdict.... It was good, but not as good as the Hokkien Mee stall at Peel Road (opposite Queens park) and the one that is at Petaling Street (opposite the famous longan drink stall).

With a stuff stomach, must get the longan drink, slurping it till we reach our car.

Monday:
Happy Diwali!
Ironed clothes of 2 weeks ;)
Went shopping with mummy dearest.. Back home, blogging, reading book (Spencerville by Nelson Demille), TV-ies and rest and relax.

Tuesday:
Back to work.. and it's going to be a longgg week..

Hope everyone have a nice week ahead ya!!

Yut Kee Restaurant..

Ever since we discovered Yut Kee, Wernn especially will always try to find reasons to go back again for some good food. Each time friends visit, that is always a good chance...
That applies when Alu is back this December.. k, we go for breakfast?

I finally..

..went to the dentist last Saturday, 18th October 2008.

It was my first visit in a decade or more..

The experience was not as terrifying as the last time as far as I recalled.
This was how I felt.. (might be kinda gross to u)

I was in the 'surgery' (yes, that's how critical I see my appointment with a dentist) room under the bright light. Scaling was done, then polishing. Next, was the filling.

Dentist said: I can give u the injection if you feel the pain is unbearable.
Me nodded.
Me thinking: Injection??!?!!? Oh my gawddddd.. this is going to be longggggg..
Dentist at work.
Construction sounds.
A few hours seem to have passed..
Jaw and mouth was painful, open too long, can't close, nurse was pulling it open too I think.
Start to feel dizzy.
Start to feel nausea.
Me thinking: This is just the 1st filling, will I ever survive?
About another 5 long minutes..
Silent.

Dentist said: Get me the mirror..
Me asking with a numb mouth: Just done with the 1st filling?
Dentist said: Nope, done with 3 already.
Me thinking: Thank GOD. With some dizzy feeling, I am proud I survived the ordeal and walked out of the room. Time checked, I was just in there for about 35 minutes. I bet time passed by so slowly when you are bored or scared..

Somehow, I was proud of myself. After procrastinating for so long, I finally managed to resolve one of my year 2008 resolutions. Yay!!

Have you resolve yours yet?

Happy Mid Autumn Festival to everyone...

Happy Mooncake Festival! I woke up eating a slice of mooncake... and felt the festivity around..

Mum cooked some really good meals for us.. One of my all time favourites would be braised mushrooms and chicken feet.. Simply delicious~ Not forgetting, the chicken, prawns, siew yok and vegetables..

And, I'm going to bed later, with another slice of mooncake to wrap this beautiful day..

Happy Mooncake festival to my family and all my beloved friends.. May we enjoy peace and happiness through autumn, winter, spring and summer :)

Last weekend

Had tea for supper in Winter Warmer, The Curve with colleagues and ex-colleagues.. Farewell is never a happy thing, but I wish you all the best, CY.

Had a meet up with D'Gang, but not all of them physically here, it's getting harder, with everyone's tight schedule. But of course, it's always a happy outing, whenever we have one.. And not forgetting you Lulu, with just a phone call away, you're just right 'beside' us.

Happy Birthday in advance to Baby & Chun Hoe!

Human statues at Pavilion, KL

We were almost late, havent taken our dinner yet and about to catch movie Wall-e. After buying the tickets, we head to have our dinner, and this caught my eyes.. Human statues! They are in costumes, covering their whole face, and posing for the crowd. I was excited and wanted a picture with them. Some people even imitate their poses (though I bet they are funny).. hee

Quick shots, and we are off to dinner and movie (on time)..

I found lots more of human statues pictures on flickr.. I think they are really cool.. Full of emotions ..

Foodzzz...

As I was reading the papers this morning, I came across an article with few nice food pictures.. It caught my eyes, and since we are planning for a family eat-around again, this place sounds pretty nice. Especially when we are bringing pop and mum, a decent chinese meal will never go wrong.
The article was extracted from PureGlutton.blogspot.com and that would be our next family eat-around destination.

Durian Night..

Wow.. brother bought some durians today... and me and pop doing what we do best.. Yes, opening the durians.. It's been a while since we had this 'activity'. We used to buy durians back in one piece.. It reminds me of the time we spent with my late aunty (Ku Cheh). But those are sweet memories. Today, I felt her appearance.. How I miss her.. I hope she is well wherever she is now. Rest in peace Ku Cheh.. I miss you.

So, back to the durians, they are great! Simple delicious.. Juicy and fleshy, as big as my palm, and they are just amazing..

Care for some?

Hari Ini Dalam Sejarah

I feel a stomach ache before I sleep. Mild one. Too bad it strikes in the middle of my sleep. It's not mild anymore.

Off to the loo. It was a satisfying one. Hee. Enough said.

Went back to room but I'm too awake to fall asleep again. I seek refuge on internet. Read www.thestar.com.my, www.chedet.com. More interesting political stories.

So exciting that me and wernn thinks film makers should jot down all details and make a movie from this saga. We can rope in some international movie stars. The scripts and movieline are good anyway. I think it'll surely be a box office. We can even get it listed in the Malaysian Books of Records too. First movie on Malaysia's era lost in transition. We'll just play the movie for the students during the school's Sejarah class. It's easy to absorb too.

Let everyone be aware of how critically-ill Malaysia has become.
Let everyone knows that history do repeats.
Let everyone knows that history is here so we learn the good and discard the bad.

Sejarah class will never be the same again? Hee.

I think I better get some sleep while it's still dark outside. And great.. It's weekend! Yay!

Saturday fun time learning English...

I just came back from my relative's place after a full moon dinner..
I was writing and came across the word 'rhythms'. I wasn't sure of the spelling, so I checked it out and noticed that they have no vowel letters.. So, being free, I try to trigger more words that has no vowel letters in it..

Rhythms, try, why, hymn, myth, shy, cry, my, cysts, lymph, fly.

And did you noticed that all the words above has 'y' in it?

hehe.. now I'm trying hard to get a word -vowel -y
..
..
..
dr. tv. ms. mrs. mr. hmm. grrrrr. still can't think of any.
..
..
..

So, I seeked refuge from the Internet.. and it's getting more fun learning that 'y' is a vowel when it sounds like a long 'i'. People are debating on whether the letter 'y' is a vowel or a consonant. Some says 'y' is only used as a vowel when no main vowel exists in the word.

So, all the words I've mentioned above are thus, consider as words with vowels?!?

You have any idea? Are there any real English words that has no vowels?
..
..
..
CRYPT .. dang.

Great Saturday..

At the 3rd International Bookfest in KL Convention Centre. There are lots of great bargains here, more so on Chinese books. Lots of varieties and price comes in from as low as RM3. Huge crowd, happy to see many book lovers around.

Then, we head to Galeri Petronas, to see what's interesting and on show. Stirring Odissi is currently on till June 22 '08, at Level 3, Suria KLCC every day except Monday, from 10am to 8pm.

Odissi III by Sivarajah Natarajan

Lotus of Life by Syed Thajudeen.

I did not get to take a picture of this, but it was on The Star, 1st June '08. I ‘printscreen’ it.. :)

Then, we head over to LowYat Plaza around 6+pm to purchase network card. It was pretty jam that day at Bintang area. I got a DLink network card for Rm18 at All IT Hypermarket. On the way back, we stop for a while to watch the World Cyber Games held outside LowYat Plaza. There was a PC football game going on between two participants. They were on stage and there's a big screen showing the game. They even have a few rows for spectators to watch the footie. Wernn said it was more exciting than the real footie. I have to agree. The footie game was fast and interesting. We got back to our car within an hour and head home for dinner with parents. We had our steamboat dinner at our old place, Hoong Kee's Steamboat.

World Cyber Games 2008

Later, we head over to Coco Banana, Sunway Pyramid, meeting up with my colleagues and Kenji. It was a great night, it's been a long time since we had a night out drinking session. Headed home around 2am and it's time for a good rest after a long day.

Cleaning my cabinet

Tonight, I suddenly had the urge to clean up my cabinet.. and among those I found inside are papers and tonnes of papers, envelopes, and more papers. (Not sure why I'm keeping them, but I know I need to recycle them.. the time is finally here.. hehe)

So, I go through and found many 'red bombs' from all my beloved friends.. But I think the majority came from last year, 2007 where I had a lot of friends getting married and I'm invited to share the big day with them! And I still have their wedding invitation card! It was nice going through it.. hee.. and these are some of it.. hehee.. :)

Over the weekend .. Foodz.z.

I was browsing through my PC & cleaning up some stuff. I found some pictures I've taken some time back while having dinner. Now, I've got the time to post it and share with you..

Restaurant Yue Yee Chai, opposite Shaw Parade, beside Public Bank was closed. Buttt... they sort of re-open it a few shops down the block over the corner (near to the traffic light towards Berjaya Times Square). The place is brightly lighted and the food tastes just as good. The dishes were served pretty fast too.

We ordered fried keow tiow, mushroom noodle and kangkung belacan. It was delicious.

These 2 pictures were taken from Sek Hou restaurant, near to the GSC cinema (3rd floor) in Berjaya Times Square.

The restaurant name means 'Eat Good' and I do agree with them. The food were served in a generous portion and by looking at the menu, we are definitely spoilt for choices. You get some western and eastern meals and their drinks menu are quite special.

The unique thing is that, they have meals that are specially prepared for the health conscious. At an affordable price, you get to taste herbal soups and noodles. I will take more pictures of their latest menu the next time I'm there...

Over the weekend...

Also went to visit Ayu and family in JB.. Hehe, they are one growing happy family and it's nice to see them again after a looong time. Ayu remains the hot cheeky and cute Ayu (I wonder if she ever grows old). Raul is a cute lil child .. sleeping and waking up .. and his eyes though is not as big as mine yet, but very soon, I know, he will catch up just like his big bro.

Too bad, I didn't get to take any pictures of lil Raul, coz we were busy talking and talking and eating (thanks Ayu for the best mee rebus).. I'm so glad we manage to made the trip to visit Ayu and family, it was a fun and happy trip.. and that's a great quality time I've had.

Just manage to capture some sunset pictures and the chocolate from Ayu, that keep us awake and energize till our dinner at around 930pm.
